Helen Leckel, 98, formerly of North Haledon, passed away at her daughter’s home in Downingtown, PA with her family at her side. She was the loving wife of the late George A. Leckel, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1993. Born in Paterson, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Anna Bender Suter. As the owner of Suter’s Gardens, she loved growing flowers, plants and vegetables with her much loved husband, George, and her sister, Lily. Her sweet smile and warm and giving heart brought joy and comfort to all who met her. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. Millard and husband, Walter J., of Downingtown, PA and Kimberley A. Vervaet of Sussex. Also surviving are grandchildren, Douglas G. Millard and wife, Rita, and Michael W. Millard; nephews, Robert G. Vervaet and wife, Donna, Jack Vervaet; and nieces, Cathy Hudowalski and Jane Cross. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1st at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Rd, Franklin Lakes, where relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Interment Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.

BLEEKER-GUSTAFSON Hazel (Bley) Bleeker-Gustafson age 86, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away on April 15th. Born in “Stutz” house on Belmont Ave in North Haledon, New Jersey, she lived in Florida for the past 35 years. Her initial training in Cardiology began at Paterson General Hospital where she was employed for 10 years. She then accepted a position as supervisor of Cardiology at Pascack Valley Hospital with seven technicians and twelve Cardiologists. Further training in Echocardiography when it came into being in 1975 at Lahey Clinic in Boston. She then moved to Ohio and worked in Lima Memorial Hospital until retiring to North Miami in 1981. In 1985 they started an export company which took them to many countries around the world. They remained in business until 2000 and made a final move to Jensen Beach. Beloved wife of Ebbe R. Gustafson, devoted mother of Karen Kopcha of Fairfield, CT., John Bleeker of North Haledon, NJ., Thomas Bleeker of North Haledon, NJ. Step mother of Lucy Milton of Fort Lauderdale, FL., Jeffrey Gustafson of Cumming, GA., Patricia Holt of Alpharetta, GA., Carl Gustafson of Suwanne, GA. SEGRETO, James Victor was born at home on December 27, 1929 in Paterson N.J. to Antonetta and Frank Segreto, both from Italy. James was the devoted and loving husband of Antonia Segreto and beloved father of James and his wife Joy Segreto, Antoinette Segreto, Thomas and his wife Kristen Segreto, proud and loving grandfather of James Salvatore, Michael Patrick, Jackson Thomas, Edward James and Emily Antonia Segreto and predeceased by his granddaughters Emelia Margaret and Veronica Helen Segreto. He also is survived by Frances Bajada, whom he loved like a daughter, and Isabella Maria Bajada, whom he loved like a granddaughter. James graduated from Seton Hall University and Fordham Law School and practiced as an extraordinarily gifted attorney for 52 years. He proudly served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, as Passaic County Counsel and counsel to multiple local and regional governments, having earned the trust of those with whom he served. He was an avid reader and talented writer of books and poems, an artist and a lover of words and history. His areas of particular focus were Italian architecture, art and the life and works of Dante Alighieri. James also enjoyed wines from all over the world, his favorites having come from the Bordeaux region of France. Though his interests were many, his passion was for his family and above all, for the love of his life, Antonia. He was a devoted Roman Catholic, whose faith in, and love of, God and the church were deep and sustained. James Segreto lived a life of incredible intellectual depth, and he had a heart of equal measure. Throughout his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, he lived with dignity under the loving care of his wife, whom he never allowed his mind to forget. He was loved by those who mattered most to him and respected by those who encountered him. One of his favorite words is one that best describes him: ineffable. The ineffable James V. Segreto passed from the full and well-earned life he lived with honor, into the evermore of God’s grace on May 22, 2015. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, N.J. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 10 AM, May 27, 2015 at the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 787 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes, N.J. AGARWAL, Shyama Devi – 89, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015 at St. Joe’s Hospital in Wayne, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Shyama was born in India and immigrated to the United States in 1981, with her late husband, Dr. Gurmukh Das Agarwal. She had a passion for Indian cooking, singing and always greeting everyone with a smile or a laugh. She raised a very close-knit and loving family, all of whom settled minutes away from her. She is survived by her three daughters, Meera (Anand) Sahu, Manju (Jitendra) Agarwal, Kumud (Anil) Bansal, and her son, Anil (Meenoo) Agarwal. Mrs. Agarwal was also the loving wife of the late Dr. Gurmukh Das Agarwal, the mother of the late Dr. Veena (Ashoke) Agarwal and the Nani to the late Miss Anka Bansal. She is also survived by 11 grandkids and 20 great-grandkids, who were very blessed to have their Nani/Amma in their lives.
